Reviewer's guide

As a reviewer, you listen to narration and approve sentences or reject them with feedback. Narrators can re-record rejected sentences and mark feedback as resolved. When you hand over a section, it moves to Done if no rejection remains open; otherwise it returns to the narrator. Approving every sentence is not required for handover.

You work in reviewer view, which is read-only on the recordings — you can't record, delete, or trim. Instead the footer shows your review counters and lets you step through rejected sentences. If you are a lead, a producer, or an administrator previewing the studio, switch to Reviewer in the role switcher.

Your production card

The Productions dashboard shows a card for each production assigned to you. New invitations appear under Incoming, with Accept and Decline buttons. After you respond, the card moves to the appropriate group and its ⋯ menu becomes available.

The ⋯ menu has two items. Production roles lists everyone assigned to the production, their roles, invitation responses, assigned chapters, and deadlines. You can view the crew but cannot change assignments; those controls belong to the lead or an administrator. Production details shows the full description and details of your assignment, including your role, deadline, and assigned part of the publication.

Listen before you judge

Use the overview's playback controls to listen through a section. Play, skip and speed work as described in the narrator's listening controls, with word highlighting during playback. To hear one sentence, open its status-dot menu and choose Listen.

Approving and rejecting

Approve a sentence

Open a recorded sentence's status-dot menu and choose Approve. The approval is saved, the footer's approved count increases, and the green dot's tooltip changes to “Approved by reviewer.” Approval is available only for sentences with audio you can listen to. Silent sentences, announcements and sentences without recordings cannot be approved.

Audio supplied with the imported document counts as recorded. You can approve or reject a Pre-recorded sentence, marked with a teal dot, from its menu under Listen to pre-recorded audio. Approve all includes these sentences. They can be reviewed without being recorded again.

Reject with a reason

Choose Reject to open the reject dialog. Pick a category, optionally add a comment, and submit. The sentence dot turns red and the "unresolved" counter in the footer goes up.

CategoryUse for
PronunciationA mispronounced word.
EmphasisWrong stress or emphasis.
RetakeThe whole take needs redoing.
InstructionA specific instruction to follow.
OtherAnything else (use the comment).

The narrator sees your category and comment under the sentence, with Record again and Mark as resolved buttons. In reviewer view, use the red status dots and footer counters to track this feedback.

Tracking what's been fixed

The footer shows ✓ approved as approved / recorded, counting only sentences with audio. It also shows ● unresolved rejections and ○ resolved rejections. Counts of zero are hidden.

The narrator selects Mark as resolved after handling your feedback. The unresolved count decreases, the resolved count increases, and the sentence dot returns to its usual recorded colour. Your category and comment remain visible to the narrator in the greyed-out rejection block.

Syncing sentences with a larger model

Word timings and misread words come from speech recognition running on your computer. Open Speech recognition with its icon in the rail at the right edge of the studio, download a model, and choose it for final sync. The overview header then offers Run final sync on N sentences for the sentences that model would read better. Pressing it runs final sync in the background, and the new timings are saved on the takes for everyone working on the production.

Working through a section

Jump between rejections

When there is at least one rejected sentence, the footer shows how many, with Prev. and Next to step through them in order (wrapping around). The reader scrolls to each one.

Approve everything at once

After listening to the section, choose Approve all to approve every sentence with audio, then confirm. Sentences without audio are skipped. The button disappears when all recorded sentences are approved. It is disabled if the section is at another stage, has been exported, or has an import or export error; its tooltip explains why.

Handing a section to the next role

You finish one section at a time. When you are done with the section you have open, click Mark article complete in the header. Your other sections are untouched, so you can close one and carry on with the next.

If all rejections have been resolved, Mark article complete moves the section to Done, ready for the producer to export. If any rejection remains unresolved, it sends the section back to the narrator and shows Sent back for re-recording. Read the confirmation message to see which happened.

The handover button appears when the section is at Review and your reviewer assignment covers it. To change its stage after handover, a producer must use ⋯ ▸ Article ▸ Change stage.

Bookmarks

Open Bookmarks with the bookmark icon in the rail at the right edge of the studio to keep a list of spots you want to return to. Add the current position with an optional label, and click any bookmark to jump straight back to that sentence.

Keyboard shortcuts

Open Keyboard shortcuts from the ⋯ menu for the shortcuts available in your current role. Reviewer view has no recording shortcuts. Most review shortcuts work within the focused area: use Tab to focus the waveform overview or manuscript first.

SpacePlay / pause — waveform overview focused
← / →Previous / next sentence — waveform overview focused
↑ / ↓Previous / next sentence — manuscript focused
Home / EndFirst / last sentence, in whichever of the two is focused
EnterOpen the focused sentence's status-dot menu (Listen, Approve, Reject)
EscPause playback — from anywhere outside the waveform overview
Ctrl/⌘+FSearch the text
VReading settings — also in focus mode

Focus mode, the notifications bell, locked manuscripts, and other controls shared by every role are described under Common to every role on the overview.
